A portion of the proceeds from Sit. Stay. Plie. will be given to the Alabama Ballet and several Birmingham, Alabama, area animal rescues.
Alabama Ballet dancers have dedicated their lives to their art. Fellow performers feel less like coworkers and much more like a close-knit family - this includes their canine companions. Alabama Ballet is a group made up of grit and grace and a lot of four-legged friends. On any given day, a different ballet dog may visit the dancers at work. The dogs are often seen running laps down the hallway and peering into rehearsals. When a furry visitor arrives, the atmosphere of the studio completely changes. Tension and mental exhaustion from the hours of self-scrutiny melt away and are replaced by smiles and lifted moods.
Sit. Stay. Plie. celebrates the company's dancers and dogs in a stunning photographic collection featuring the beauty and athleticism of dancers with the tail-wagging giddiness and curiosity of animals rescued from the streets and shelters across Alabama.
They say that a dog is a man's best friend. Dancers are just one testament to this saying. Ballet, just like life, can be really great. We all love our art form, but sometimes it doesn't love you back. On those days, the unconditional love and understanding that only a dog can give is enough to make anyone feel whole again.

ABOUT ASHA GANGOLLI
In 2014, Asha Gangolli said goodbye to her native Chicago to start a new adventure with alabama Ballet. Birmingham quickly found a way into her heart and this book provided a wonderful way to give back to the community she has fallen in love with. When not dancing, Asha can be found sipping coffee or a cocktail and learning to master the art of southern living.
