This DVD presents the Chicago Symphony Orchestra' concert at the 1971 Edinburgh Festival - their first outside North America - under the baton of Sir Gerog Solti, with whom the orchestra would become inextricably linked. In compelling accounts of Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream Overture and Brahms's Symphony No. 1, the combination of conductor and orchestra produces truly impressive results which contrast astounding power with tenderness and grace. This recording is exemplary of the way in which Solti's association with the CSO remains legendary in the history of orchestral performance.
